The Flagstaff Hitmen were
established in the AzFL in 2003 and what a
season it was! The first and only team
currently in the AzFL to go undefeated in
their first season, the Hitmen looked very
good right from the start. Their 10-0 record
showed they had the talent to play with any
team in the league.
Going into the playoffs the Hitmen were
very new and didn't know what to expect,
except having to play the other undefeated
team in the first round would be a very
challenging task. The Globe-Miami Sting cut
short the cinderella season for the Hitmen,
but even with a loss the rest of the league
were stunned by their first year domination.
The Globe-Miami Sting followed the next
season going undefeated not only in the
regular season, but in the playoffs, winning
their first ever state Championship and even
being crowned National Champions by the Minor
League Football News. The Sting also presented Jaime,
Hitmen owner, with a Game Ball from the 2004 state
championship game signed by all the players.
Showing the respect they have for her and the
flagstaff Hitmen.
Jaime is also the first women to ever fully own and operate a team. She started it while
she was still a junior in college at NAU. Now she and her husband, Jeremiah Smith
run it together. He is, as you know the
quarterback for the Flagstaff Hitmen. On top
of the first year accomplishments, Jaime and
the Hitmen also won the territorial award
titled, "Rulers of the North", by beating Tri-City Raptors each year.
Last year they tied in the regular season and then
destroyed the Raptors in the playoffs to win it again.
Going into the 2004 season, the Flagstaff
Hitmen struggled. But with off season
recruiting the Hitmen bounced back in the 2005
season by grabbing new coach Anthony
LaBarbera and Phil Williams, who took them to a 9-2-1 record and
a trip to the final four in the 2005 playoffs,
losing to the soon to be 2005 state champions,
the Glendale Bulldogs, by a score of 14-7.
In the 2007 season the Hitmen got back to
the playoffs, and made it to the final four!
The team is refocused its efforts on the Northern
Arizona players. The teamwork was the
most amazing ever in the 5th season. The
Hitmen became the longest running team in
Northern Arizona History. Next season .
. .nothing will stop them of reaching their
goal of an AzFL State Championship! 2008
will mark the Hitmen's 6th season. With
returning head coach and owner Jeremiah Smith
adding two new coaches to the staff their game
will only improve. Jack Pakos and Warren
Lukemire have signed on to help the Hitmen on
their way to the State Championship. With
a new year and new coaches the Hitmen have found
the formula that works! This will be the season
they win the ring and "Leave no doubt" why they
earned it!
