WSFL 2007 Week Nine Games: Scroll down for story-stats.

Snow traveled to Tucson and the Badgers beat the Aztecs 58-21. Keep an eye on the very young Pima team, they will be returning most of their starters for the 2008 season. They are learning to score and playing with pride. Bill Laslett has the program going in the right direction. The Badgers will hold on to their number one spot in the nation and will be looking forward to their match in a few weeks with Eastern. Scottsdale hopes that the other SC is looking past them next week.

Eastern the #4 team in the nation broke open a close game that was tied at the half 7-7. They went on to win 31-7 in a game that saw Mesa lose the turnover battle while Eastern took advantage of every opportunity. The T-Birds got their 7 points after a R. Young seven yard TD run to tie it. But EAC's Riley played well at QB and the Monsters had to be happy with Smiths 90 yard TD. EAC has Pima next and they better be focused or the Aztecs could make their game in two weeks at Snow meaningless for the Monsters. Mesa has a week off before they face the Gauchos for what should be the game that decides the Valley of the Sun Bowl host. The T-Birds will be crying in their non-alcoholic beverages when they watch the mistake filled game film of this loss.

Scottsdale treated their host to a long day in New Mexico and ruined homecoming for the Broncos by beating them 31-13 on Saturday afternoon.

Scottsdale Spoils NMMI's Homecoming 31-13

Roswell, NM --New Mexico Military Institute's Homecoming festivities didn't go as planned as Scottsdale Community College handed NMMI a 31-13 conference loss.  NMMI gained all of the momentum in the first quarter but that quickly went away as Scottsdale was able to make some key adjustments on defense to shut down the nation's top rushing offense.

The Broncos took advantage of some crucial Scottsdale penalties on their first possession and marched down the field.  Sheridan Forte put the Broncos on top with a 5-yard run for his second score of the season. Kevin Perez connected on his point after try to give the Broncos a 7-0 lead.

NMMI got the ball back after a failed field goal attempt by Scottsdale. The Broncos got a big play from running back Michael McIntosh as he took the ball 67 yards on a sweep down to the Scottsdale 5-yard line.  The drive stalled but Perez was able to convert on a 24-yard field goal attempt to push the NMMI lead to 10-0.

Scottsdale took control of the second quarter, scoring 17 unanswered points.  NMMI snapped that streak with 17-seconds remaining in the half when Perez made a 30-yard field goal.  The kick cut the Scottsdale lead down to 17-13.

As the second half came around, both offenses struggled to get anything going as the defensive units held strong. Scottsdale would get the first score of the second half with 10:24 remaining in the game when Cody Bruns scored on a 10-yard run to extend their lead to 24-13.

Things fell apart for the Broncos from there. On their next offensive play, quarterback Stephen Baca was hit from behind, losing the ball in the process. A Scottsdale defender picked up the lose ball and carried it down to the NMMI 8-yard line. Tony Simms carried it in from there to give them the 31-13 lead for good.

Scottsdale held NMMI's offense in check, limiting them to a season low 140 yards rushing.  Scottsdale rolled up 224 yards on the ground and another 114 through the air as they controlled the football for most of the second half. NMMI falls to 2-6 overall and 1-4 in the WSFL.  Scottsdale improves to 5-3 overall and 3-3 in conference play.  NMMI travels to Phoenix College next Saturday.  Kickoff is set for 8 pm MST.
