Arizona Football League - AzFL
The Scottsdale Gladiators took on their former team in week 6 playing against a team that only showed up to play with 17, the Paradise Valley Villainz. Did some of their players decide to stay home because they knew this was a personal game verse one another? Where they intimidated? The much anticipated game ended exactly how it was suppose to, the G-Men handing out an a$$ whoopin!! The G-Men put the Villainz down into the ground where they belong with a 30-0 victory. Had the ref's not fast forwarded the game clock, this game could have gotten out of hand with 30 + more points.
Head Coach and offensive co-ordinator Phil Feliciotto didn't want to stop scoring. His mission was to pile on as many points as possible to show Richie Warner that the Gladiators are a better team without him. There reason for leaving was simple, to win a state championship with a team that is organized and structured.
The Gladiators lost the coin toss but got the ball first and scored with no problem on its first possession. Darnell Potee was a machine in the backfield for the G-Men. He piled up 116 yards on the ground with only 8 rushing attempts. He scored the G-Mens first touchdown on an 11yd rush to put the G-Men up 6-0 with 9:40 to go in the first quarter. The 2 point attempt was also converted with Potee running through the Villainz weak defense.
The scored remained 8-0 through the first quarter. Then in the second quarter all hell broke loose and there was no turning back. The G-Men piled on 22 additional points from huge plays both offensively and defensively. With 4 minutes gone in the second quarter, John Cyga hooked up with Aaron Moore for a 20 yd TD pass.
The G-Mens defense came through yet again this season. This defense is much different that prior years. We aren't as strong as the past but we play with more heart that ever. Take aways have been on our side all year long at the right times. With an interception, the G-Mens offensive unit drove the ball down again to score another TD on John Cyga's QB sneak in less than three minutes after its previous score. 2pt conversion was good by Potee, putting the Gladiators up 22-0.
James "Pain Train" Austin was a freak on the field. This game was extremely important to him and he was going to make his presense known on the field. Just after the Gladiators scored on offense, they scored on defense too. Austin scared the Villainz once again with his play and fumbled the ball. Austin barreling people over picked up the loose ball and ran it back to the house for another TD. Potee converted his 3rd 2pt conversion on the day. Gladiators scored 22 pts in less than 8 minutes.
Going into the half, the G-Men were leading the Villainz 30-0. Coach Flea wanted to put more points on the board, however, we were notified at the half that the officials were going to run the clock non stop in the second half because of concern for the other team and to speed up the process. Had we had additional time or have the clock run the way it was suppose to, the G-Men could have added another 30 + points on the depleted Villainz.
This weeks players of the game are Darnell Potee for the offense (8 carries for 116 yds, 1 rushing TD, 3 two-point conversions) and the entire defensive unit for the Gladiators. The ones in particular are Alan Stevenson (2 Ints), Noah Senter (2 Ints) and James Austin (fumble returned for a 35 yd TD). In addition to the 4 Ints, the defensive unit also forced 3 fumbles and recovered all 3.
Come support us next week as we take on the Suprise Falcons at 4:30 pm at Sunnyslope High School. See you at the games!!!!!! Go GGGGGG-Men!!!
