It was over soon and the Cards had all their picks and now will use try and find players to fill the rest of their needs via free agency. The 2007 selections are:
1st Round (5)--Levi Brown, OT, Penn State
2nd Round (33)--Alan Branch, DT, Michigan
3rd Round (69)--Buster Davis, LB, Florida State
5th Round (142)--Steve Breaston, WR, Michigan
7th Round (215)--Ben Patrick, TE, Delaware.
1st Round (5)--Levi Brown, OT, Penn State
In the first draft of the Rod Graves/Ken Whisenhunt era, the Cardinals chose 2005 all-American offensive tackle Levi Brown from Penn State University. Brown was the second tackle taken in the draft after Cleveland took Wisconsin tackle Joe Thomas with the third overall selection. Brown is the first Penn State offensive lineman drafted in the first round since Jeff Hartings went 23rd overall in 1996 to the Lions.
GOOD THING FOR JERSEY NUMBERS
When Cardinals fans are trying to spot their newest first round selection during games they will have to rely more on numbers than on names. With the addition of Levi, the Cardinals now have three players on the offensive line that share the last name Brown—Milford, Elton and now Levi.
ALL-TIME FIFTH PICKS
It will be a few years before Levi is eligible for this list but here are the top five fifth overall picks of all time according to ESPN.com.
Top Five Fifth Picks
LaDainian Tomlinson, 2001, RB, Chargers
Mike Haynes, 1976, DB, Patriots
Deion Sanders, 1989, DB, Falcons
Junior Seau, 1990, LB, Chargers
Jamal Lewis, 2000, RB, Ravens
When Ken Whisenhunt came to the Cardinals he said that he wanted his team to be smart, tough and disciplined. The first draft selection of his tenure seems to fit that bill. Brown got an early start on discipline thanks to the values instilled by his father, also named Levi, a Marine Corps Drill Sergeant. Brown proved his smarts by graduating college in only 3 ½ years with a degree in labor relations, only to add a second degree in psychology. He was one of six PSU players to graduate in May 2006. As for toughness—he started every one of the 45 games in which he played at Penn State.
Brown has come a long way since his freshman year at Penn State in 2002. A practice squad defensive lineman unsure exactly what position he would be playing, Brown was informed by legendary coach Joe Paterno that he would be switching to the offensive side of the ball. Brown reluctantly agreed. Over the next 45 games, Brown transferred himself from a practice squad defensive tackle into the number five overall pick in the NFL Draft as an all-American offensive tackle. Coach Joe was right again.
Prior to selecting Brown, the Cardinals last selected an offensive lineman with the fifth overall selection back in 1951 when the chose Notre Dame center Jerry Groom.
When the Cardinals selected Levi Brown with the fifth overall pick, it marked the first time in almost 40 years (1968) that at least two tackles were drafted in the first five selections. There have only been three times in history when that sequence has occurred, the final first coming in 1963 when three tackles were taken in the first five selections.

2nd Round (33)--Alan Branch, DT, Michigan
Branch, considered a first round talent entering the draft, was a defensive line mate of last year’s fourth round selection (107th overall) Gabe Watson at the University of Michigan.
Branch was part of the Wolverines #1 ranked run defense in 2006. A huge body up front at 6-6, 331 pounds, Branch’s Michigan squad led the nation in run defense, allowing only 43.4 rushing yards per game while giving up less than 50 yards rushing in 11 of 13 games.
Although he played his college ball at Michigan, Branch is western native, having grown up in New Mexico.
A prep standout at Cibola High School in Rio Rancho, N.M., the 6-6, 331 pound Branch was once a second team All-State basketball player. On the football field he played positions ranging from the offensive and defensive line to running back, quarterback and even punt returner.
Branch’s parents, David and Valarie, still reside in New Mexico and Alan made Rio Rancho home when not attending classes.
With 1st round (fifth overall) selection Levi Brown wrapped up and 2nd round (33rd overall) selection Alan Branch aboard, the Cardinals stayed on the defensive side of the ball, selecting linebacker Buster Davis in the 3rd round (69th overall) out of Florida State.
Davis, the ninth Seminole selected by the Cardinals in their draft history, was chosen in the same round and four picks behind, former FSU teammate and future Cardinals teammate Darnell Dockett who was drafted in the third round (65th overall) in the 2004 Draft.

3rd Round (69)--Buster Davis, LB, Florida State
Davis comes to the Cardinals having started his last 37 games at middle linebacker for the historically stingy Seminole defense.
Davis is another in a long line of Florida State defenders to hit the pro ranks. With his addition, there are seven Seminal alumni playing linebacker in the NFL- Derrick Brooks, Marcello Church, A.J. Nicholson, Tommy Polley, Ernie Sims and Kamerion Wimbley.
At 5-9, 239 pounds Davis is not as big as the prototype NFL linebacker but he is a ferocious hitter and relentless pursuer in the mold of London Fletcher and Zach Thomas. FSU’s unquestioned defensive leader, Davis’ 265 tackles led the Seminoles during his final three years in college.
