TUCSON, AZ – The Pima Community College football team hosted #20
Phoenix College for a WSFL conference game, Saturday night. The
Aztecs lost their six game of the season as they were downed by
the visiting Bears, 41-0.
Ronald Hopper, (FR, Tucson, Ariz., Amphi HS) made a return to
the Aztec’s lineup and led the team in rushing as he gained 41
yards on seven carries. Quarterback Mike Rademacher, (SO,
Tucson, Ariz., Sahuaro HS) threw for 39 yards in his second
start of the season. Rademacher went 4-15 and was intercepted
three times by the Bears. David Spencer, (SO, Tucson, Ariz.,
Sahuaro HS) was the top receiver for Pima as he made three
catches for 40 yards.
Phoenix College outgained Pima 214 yards to 42 on the ground and
199 to 39 through the air. In total the Aztecs gained 81 total
yards on 27 plays while Phoenix College gained 413 total yards
on 68 plays.
The schedule will get a little tougher for the 0-6 Aztecs as
they travel to #2 Snow College, next Saturday. Kickoff is set
for 7:30 pm in Ephraim, Utah.

TUCSON, AZ - The Pima Community College women's soccer
team hosted Phoenix College for an ACCAC conference
game, Saturday afternoon. Both teams had to battle swirling
winds but in the end the Bears came out on top beating the home
team, 2-1.
The Aztecs quickly found themselves down 0-2 in the first half,
but Sophia Whigham, (FR, Tucson, Ariz., Catalina HS) got the
Pima squad within one as she scored with one minute left in the
opening half.
The two teams battled hard in the second half where Pima had
numerous good scoring opportunities but neither team could find
the back of the net in the second half.
The 9-4-1 Aztecs will continue their brief home stand Wednesday,
as they host Chandler-Gilbert CC. Opening kick is set for 3:30
pm on the Pima CC West Campus soccer field.

team improved their 2008 season record to 13-1 with a
1-0 blanking of Phoenix College, on Saturday.
Luis Lanz, (SO, Tucson, Ariz., Salpointe Catholic HS) scored the
only goal of the game as he was set up by Clay Campbell, (SO,
Tucson, Ariz., Catalina Foothills HS) with four minutes left in
regulation play.
Andrew Gentry, (SO, Tucson, Ariz., Sabino HS) earned the shutout
in net as he only made one save but was challenged on numerous
occasions.
Pima will continue their brief home stand as they host
Chandler-Gilbert CC on Wednesday. Opening kick is set for 1:00
pm on the Pima CC West Campus soccer field.

CHANDLER, AZ – The Pima Community College volleyball team
traveled to Chandler-Gilbert CC for an ACCAC match on Wednesday.
The Aztecs took the match to five games but lost to the Coyotes
3-2. Caitlin Rand, (SO, Tucson, Ariz., Cienega HS) led the Aztec
offense as she had 21 kills in the match. Belinda Tellez, (FR,
Tucson, Ariz., Rincon HS) continued to set up the Pima attack as
she had 37 assists. Carmen Vinueza-Daly, (SO, Tucson, Ariz.,
Rincon HS) was the Aztecs top defensive player as she made 22
digs in the losing effort. The 9-15 Aztecs will return home on
Friday as they host Mesa CC. First serve is set for 7:00 pm in
the Pima CC West Campus gym.
MESA, AZ – Both Pima Community College soccer team were back
in action Wednesday night as they played ACCAC games at Mesa CC.
The Aztecs proved to be too much for the Thunderbirds as the
Pima men one the first game 3-0 and the Pima women followed
things up with a 4-2 win of their own.

In the first game of the double header, Luis lanz, (SO, Tucson,
Ariz., Salpointe Catholic HS) opened up the scoring for the #6
Aztec men. Badara Alou Coulibaly, (FR, Bamako, Mali) also scored
a first half goal while Travis Sanchez, (SO, Las Cruces, New
Mex., Mayfield HS) scored the only goal of the second half.
With the win the Aztecs improve to 12-1 and will finish no lower
than second in the ACCAC regular season.

On the women’s side the Aztecs improved to 9-3-1 with their
Wednesday night win. Emily Shuta, (FR, Tucson, Ariz., Tucson HS)
led the Aztec offense as she netted two goals in the 4-2 win.
Steph McCurry, (FR, Tucson, Ariz., Catalina Foothills HS) had a
very productive night as she set up three of the Aztecs four
goals.
Kelcee Newell, (SO, Tucson, Ariz., Sahuaro HS) and Brooke
Schmelter, (FR, Oro Valley, Ariz., Mountain View HS) scored the
other Aztec goals.
Both teams will return home this Saturday as they host the Bears
of Phoenix College. The men will take the field at noon and the
women will start at 2:30.
TUCSON, AZ – The Pima Community College women’s
soccer team swept this week’s ACCAC Player of the Week
honors as Brooke Schmelter was named Player of the Week and
Lauren Heiman was named Goalie of the Week, for the week ending
October 5th.
Schmelter, (FR, Oro Valley, Ariz., Mountain View HS) scored one
goal and one assist in the Aztecs 6-0 win over South Mountain
CC, on Wednesday; then scored two goals, while assisting on
another, in the Aztecs 14-0 rout over Glendale CC, on Saturday.
Heiman, (FR, The Colony, Tex., The Colony HS) earned her second
GOW honor of 2008 as she backed the Aztecs to the two shutouts
last week. Heiman has backstopped the 8-3-1 Aztecs to five
shutouts to so far this season. The Aztecs will travel to Mesa
CC tonight for an ACCAC night game; then return home on Saturday
where they will host Phoenix College.

TUCSON, AZ – The Pima Community College volleyball
team hosted Southwestern College, (Phoenix, Ariz.) for
a non-conference match, Monday night. The Aztecs swept the
match, winning 3-0.
Offensively, Caitlin Rand, (SO, Tucson, Ariz., Cienega HS) had a
great night as she banged home11 kills along with a team high
five ace serves. Ashley Miller, (SO, Tucson, Ariz., Palo Verde
HS) led the Aztecs in kills with a total of 17.
Belinda Tellez, (FR, Tucson, Ariz., Rincon HS) set up the Aztec
attack as she had 37 assists in the three-game match and she
played a solid defensive game as she led the Pima squad with
nine digs.
The 9-14 Aztecs will resume conference play on Wednesday as they
travel to Chandler, Ariz. to take on the Coyotes of
Chandler-Gilbert CC. First serve is set for 7:00 pm on the
campus of CGCC.

TUCSON, AZ – The Pima Community College football team
hosted the #16 Gila Monsters of Eastern Arizona College for a
Western States Football League conference game Friday night. The
Aztecs suffered a loss at the hands of EAC which drops Pima’s
season record to 0-5, 0-3 in the WSFL.
The Aztecs will continue their extended home stand next Saturday
as they host #18 Phoenix College. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm at
Tucson Magnet high school.

Campus gym.
TEMPE, AZ – The Pima Community College cross country teams
were back in action on Friday as they took part in the
Arizona State University Invitational at Kiwanis Park.
Both Aztec teams finished third out of the six teams in
attendance, which was a good finish for Pima as they
were the only junior college in attendance.
In the men’s race the #13 Aztecs were led by Damion Crawford,
(SO, Tucson, Ariz., Desert View HS) who ran a lifetime best
25:46, in the 8 km event. The stellar finish for Crawford put
him in fifth place out of the 72 runners.
Ernie Cruz, (SO, Tucson, Ariz., Sunnyside HS) was the next Aztec
across the finish line at 26:51, while Arturo Vega Flores, (SO,
Tucson, Ariz., Rincon HS) rounded out Pima’s top-three runners
with a time of 27:32.
On the women’s side, the #5 Aztecs had four runners finish in
the top half of the pack. Of the 54 racers in attendance, Hannah
Morgan, (SO, Tucson, Ariz., Desert View HS) finished 11th
overall in a time of 19:34. Aurora Trujillo, (SO, Tucson, Ariz.,
Cholla HS) was just behind Morgan as she finished 13th with a
time of 19:56.
Cherise Price, (SO, Tucson, Ariz., Catalina Magnet HS) and
Denise Barajas, (SO, Globe, Ariz., Globe HS) also finished
strong for the Aztecs as they finished 16th and 22nd.
The Aztecs will take the next two weeks to prepare for their
next race, the Mt. SAC Invitational, in Walnut, Cali.

PHOENIX, AZ - The #8 Pima Community College men's soccer team
traveled to Phoenix on Wednesday for an ACCAC conference game at
South Mountain CC. The two teams played to a scoreless first
half, but half-two was all Pima as the Aztecs outscored the
Cougars 4-1 en route to their tenth win of the season.
Travis Sanchez, (SO, Las Cruces, New Mex., Mayfield HS)
continues to be the Aztec's main offensive threat as he scored a
pair of goals in the win. Edgar Reyna, (FR, Nogales, Ariz.,
Nogales HS) also had a good game for the Aztecs as he scored one
goal and assisted on another.
Zach Neminsky, (FR, Lincoln, Neb., Nebraska Univ.) scored the
Aztecs final goal.
With the win the Aztecs improve to 10-1 and maintain a hold on
second place in the ACCAC.

The Pima women were also in action Wednesday afternoon and they
improved their season record to 6-3-1 with a 6-0 shutout over
the SMCC Cougars.
Emily Shuta, (FR, Tucson, Ariz., Tucson HS) opened up the game's
scoring as she knocked home a pass from Brooke Schmelter, (FR,
Oro Valley, Ariz., Mountain View HS). Schmelter also scored a
first-half goal for the Aztecs.
Alexa Garzelloni, (FR, Tucson, Ariz., Cienega HS) played a great
game as she scored two goals, while Kelcee Newell, (SO, Tucson,
Ariz., Sahuaro HS) knocked in a goal and assisted on another.

TEMPE, AZ - The Pima Community College cross country teams
competed at the 2008 ACCAC Championships at Kiwanis Park in
Tempe, on Friday.
The Pima
Aztec women successfully defended their 2007
ACCAC title as they dominated the competition in the
2008 event.
Pima finished the race with five runners
finishing in the top-ten and a team total of 34 points.
Mesa CC and Central Arizona College tied for second with 69
points and Paradise Valley CC rounded out the top-three with 70
points.
Hannah Morgan, (FR, Scottsdale, Ariz., Saguaro HS) led the
Aztecs as she finished in third place overall with a time of
20:04 in the 5 km race. Aurora Trujillo, (SO, Tucson, Ariz.,
Cholla HS) was the next Aztec across the finish line as she
finished sixth in a time of 20:32, which was just ahead of
Denise Barajas, (SO, Globe, Ariz., Globe HS) and Cherise Price,
(SO, Tucson, Ariz., Catalina Magnet HS) who finished seventh and
eighth respectively.
Leandra Treusch, (SO, Tucson, Ariz., Catalina Foothills HS) was
the final Aztec to finish in the top ten as she finished tenth
in a time of 21:05. With their outstanding effort on the day,
Morgan, Trujillo and Barajas also earned All-Conference First
Team selections.
"I am really proud of our ladies team," said head coach Gregg
Wenneborg. "They ran a great race and their hard work
is paying off."
On the men's side, the Aztecs finished third out of a field of
seven teams. Paradise Valley CC finished the
competition in first place with 21 points which was followed by
Central Arizona College, 55 points, and Pima, 78 points. Damion
Crawford, (SO, Tucson, Ariz., Desert View HS) was the first
Aztec across the finish line in the men's 8 km race. Crawford
finished sixth overall with a time of 26:31. Matt Lundstrom,
(FR, Marana, Ariz., Mountain View HS) was the next Aztec across
the line as he finished 13th, (27:34) and Ernie Cruz, (SO,
Tucson, Ariz., Cholla HS) was the third Aztec to finish as he
placed 21st, (28:38).
Crawford also earned an All-Conference First Team selection for
his effort in the conference championship race. "We were a
little short handed today," said Wenneborg. "I don't think it
would have changed the outcome of the race but we were missing
some help in the middle." Both Aztec cross country teams will
return to action next Friday, Oct. 3rd, as they return to
Kiwanis Park for the ASU Invitational.

HS). Zach Neminsky, (FR, Lincoln, Neb., Nebraska Univ.) was the
next Aztec to find pay dirt as he was assisted by Awes Mohammed,
(FR, Tucson, Ariz., Catalina HS).

afternoon.
The two teams played to a scoreless first half. PVCC scored the
first
goal of the game late in the second half but Pima marched right
back and
tied things up three minutes later. Brooke Schmelter, (FR, Oro
Valley,
Ariz., Mountain View HS) scored the lone Aztecs goal. Schmelter
was set
in on a crossing pass by Ebrianna Moore, (SO, Tucson, Ariz.,
Palo Verde
HS).
The two teams played to a scoreless first ten minutes of
overtime but
PVCC scored two minutes into the second overtime frame, which
was good
enough in the sudden victory, overtime format. The Aztecs will
hit the road for their next three games; the first of the
extended road trip will be on Wednesday at South Mountain CC.
First kick is set for 3:30 pm in Phoenix.

TUCSON, AZ - The Pima Community College football team hosted the
Broncos of New Mexico Military Institute in a WSFL conference
game Saturday night. The Aztecs had their best showing of the
2008 campaign but lost 50-12, dropping their season record to
0-4.
Pima gained 162 yards of offense in the game, 161 through the
air. Aztec quarterback, Frank Gonzalez, (SO, Tucson, Ariz.,
Cholla HS) went 10-25 with one touchdown pass and two
interceptions. The lone passing TD came on a six yard strike to
Jeremy Mack, (SO, Independence, Missouri, Blue Springs South
HS).
David Spencer, (SO, Tucson, Ariz., Sahuaro HS) was the top
receiver in the game as he made seven catches for a total of 133
yards.
Johnny Poole, (FR, St. Petersburg, Flor., St. Petersburg HS)
scored the other Aztec touchdown as he rushed for 12 yards on 13
carries.
Defensively, Justin Monson, (SO, Saugus, Cal., Saugus HS) and
Kyle Monson, (FR, Saugus, Cal., Saugus HS) led the Aztecs with
seven solo and three assisted tackles each. Clint Daniel, (SO,
Kaneohe, Haw., Castle HS) was next on the tackle list as he had
five solo and five assists. Daniel also got in on a sack
that he shared with D'Narryl Austin, (SO, Tucson, Ariz., Palo
Verde HS).
Josh Heater, (SO, Marana, Ariz., Marana HS) also had a great
defensive night as he made five solo tackles two of which were
sacks.
The Aztecs will continue a three-game home stand next Saturday
as they host the #18 Gila Monsters of Eastern Arizona College.
Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm at the Tucson Magnet High School
football field.
