Deuce Lutui inked a four year contract as the Cardinals second round pick and 41st overal. The two year starter on the offensive line at USC is from Mesa, Arizona. Prior to starting his college career he spent a season playing in the Arizona Football League. www.azfl.com. This makes Deuce the 5th player to play for either the Arena Football League or the NFL. Twenty four others have been signed by other pro indoor league teams and in Germany.

The AzFL has teams from the Southern end of the state to the Northern. It is adult amateur tackle football league for players 18 and older. Flagstaff has a team called the Hitmen. For info on playing in the AzFL you can call 623-939-4877. Each season players from the AzFL move on to play college football and nearly every JUCO in Arizona has players from this league on their rosters. If you want to play for fun or to restart your college options, give them a call.

High Country Football Dreams!

Northern Arizona is home to it’s own adult amateur tackle football team. They are the Flagstaff Hitmen 2006 will be their 5th season

and will play their fifth season in the Arizona Football League AzFL starting this January 2007. The team plays from January through May each year with part of it’s 11 man games in Phoenix and part right here in Flagstaff. The team was started in 2003 by a then junior girl in college at NAU, Jaime Pakos. She was a former cheerleader on the 2000 State Champion Cheer squad from Phoenix Christian high school. Her husband to be, Jeremiah Smith was playing college football during the Hitmen planning stages in Mexico for the UAT Roadrunners in the city of Victoria, Mexico.

Jeremiah and Jamie were married in April of 2005 in Flagstaff with the snow covered San Francisco Peaks in the background. The first year the team set a new league record by being the first ever first year team to have a perfect 10-0 record. Jeremiah played quarterback for the Hitmen and during his time as a starter he led the team to 33 wins in three seasons. Prior to playing for the Hitmen Jeremiah played on the same team that the NFL Cardinals rookie Deuce Lutui played on.

Jeremiah is from Wyoming, born in Torrington and growing up there played high school football, basketball and ran track at Southeast High. His hobbies are hunting, both gun and bow, fishing, camping, golf, basketball, softball and football. He has been coaching high school football for four years in Flagstaff and is now in his second year as the head JV football coach for the Eagles. He works with youth for the county. He is now preparing for both the Flagstaff High football season and the Flagstaff Hitmen football season that starts in January. At Flagstaff High he also helps out on the varsity games with head coach Craig Holland. For nine months a year he is coaching football.

From now on Jeremiah will only be coaching the Hitmen after an early season injury that caused him to miss the entire 2006 Hitmen season. One of his top priorities is helping young players restart their college careers. You can become a part of the Hitmen as a player, coach or team partner. This is amateur football and the players must cover their own expenses. With a lot of travel for games the team could use your help. If you have always wanted to be a part of your own football team, then contact the AzFL so we can hook you up with the Hitmen and together we can work at “Keeping the Dream Alive”TM The AzFL has teams all over the state, if you are 18 and can get your own equipment and want to put the pads on once again, contact the AzFl at 623-939-4877. If you live in the Flagstaff area visit the web site to get the Hitmen contact info, go to: www.azfl.com.

He has depth at all positions, at QB it will be Luke Hawthorne and Ryan Hill. On the line Brad Shed, T.J. Pond, and Jared Shughart. Running backs will be, Aaron Corbiere, Kasper Axtell, Ricardo Soto and Scooter Carrillo. Wide recievers are James Brooks and Matt Shirley while the tight end is Tim Serano. The team will get help on the defensive line from a player who’s family moved here from Texas, plus another move by a players family from Coconino. The Eagles have good team speed at on the defense and at the wide receiver, tight end and running back positions.
