Not
playing last weekend cost the Milwaukee
Iron a spot in the Arena Football League
Writers Association (AFLWA) Top 8 Poll.
That and the Tulsa Talons’ impressive
63-59 victory over the Dallas
Vigilantes. The victory moved the Talons
(2-0) up a spot to No. 2, dropping the
Iron (1-0) one position back to No. 3.
Each team received a first-place vote.
The Chicago Rush (2-0) remained No. 1,
receiving nine first-place votes and 93
points. The other first-place vote went
to the No. 4 Arizona Rattlers (1-0).
Rounding out the poll were the No. 5
Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings (2-0),
No. 6 Spokane Shock (1-1) and tied at
No. 7 the Alabama Vipers (1-1) and
Vigilantes (0-1).
The AFLWA, founded at the start of the
2004 season, is a national organization
made up of media members who cover the
Arena Football League. Mark
Anderson of Pro Football Weekly and the
Las Vegas Review-Journal is the AFLWA's

The Chicago Rush strengthened its spot
atop the Arena Football League Writers
Association (AFLWA) Top 8 Poll, receiving eight
of 13 first-place votes.
Chicago,
which opened with a 61-43 victory over the Iowa
Barnstormers, totaled 98 points. That easily
beat out the No. 2 Milwaukee Iron, which
received two first-place votes and 66 points.
The Tulsa Talons were No. 3 with 63 points, the
Dallas Vigilantes No. 4 with two first-place
votes and 60 points, and the Arizona Rattlers
No. 5 with one first-place vote and 55 points.
No other team received a first-place vote.
Florida teams rounded out the rest of the poll —
the Orlando Predators at No. 6 and the
Jacksonville Sharks and Tampa Bay Storm tied at

The Chicago Rush
is the preseason No. 1 in the Arena Football
League Writers Association Top 8 Poll as the AFL
prepares to begin a new season after taking last
year off.
Voting was
split, with all 15 teams receiving votes and six
clubs receiving at least one first-place vote.
The Rush received two first-place votes and 53
points to edge out the No. 2 Tampa Bay Storm,
which had one first-place vote and 50 points.
The Dallas Vigilantes actually had the most
first-place votes, with four, but was third with
49 points.
Rounding out the
Top 8 were the Cleveland Gladiators, Orlando
Predators, Spokane Shock, Milwaukee Iron and
Arizona Rattlers.
